LOCAL apparel manufacturer Mills has collaborated with designer Didiet Maulana, through his brand Ikat Indonesia, to design costumes for athletes who will compete in the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

IKAT Indonesia by Didiet Maulana was entrusted to be responsible for designing the costumes for the Indonesian contingent at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. The collection consists of jackets, jerseys, and track pants.

For the Indonesian Contingent costume, it carries a concept titled Sandya Niskala. In Sanskrit, Sandya means unity, while Niskala means strong and sturdy.

“Sandya Niskala is a concept that is presented inspired by Indonesia as an archipelagic country with diverse cultures and noble values of strong and solid unity like the beauty of unity in Bhineka Tunggal Ika,” said Didiet as reported by Antara, Tuesday (27/8).

Sandya Niskala’s design series also includes elements of ikat woven motifs that represent the richness and diversity of Indonesian culture, in line with the vision of the brand founded by Didiet Maulana since 2011.

The motif also features a geometric pattern that flows like dynamic ocean waves inspired by Indonesia as an archipelago. The motif, said Didiet, symbolizes the struggle and optimism of athletes in competing.

In accordance with the grand concept, the motif also includes inspiration from Garuda Pancasila. In the form of feathers, the motif contains a philosophy about the strength, unity, and oneness of the Indonesian nation. The placement of the motif on the jacket, jersey and pants is also arranged in such a way that it looks dynamic like the shape of the bird’s beak in the Garuda Pancasila symbol.

The color combination in the motif design is also inspired by the Garuda Pancasila symbol.

It consists of the color red which symbolizes courage, white which symbolizes purity, golden yellow which symbolizes grandeur and success, and a touch of gray which symbolizes a sense of responsibility.

The contrast effect is applied with a mix of colors on the jacket and trousers in a soft light cream color to provide a dynamic yet down-to-earth element and to bring together a harmonious modern impression with the traditional Ikat motif.

“From these colors, IKAT Indonesia by Didiet Maulana wants to present an energetic nuance, new spirit, and good hope for Indonesian athletes who have fought in the competition,” said Didiet.

President Director of PT Mitra Kreasi Garmen Stevendy Tjen is proud that Mills has been chosen again to support Indonesian sports for the world’s highest competition in Paris. “We hope that Indonesian athletes are proud to use original Indonesian products, especially since they will compete against world athletes,” he said.

“This is proof that Indonesia is not inferior to other countries, with the quality of Mills and international class designers, making our athletes’ jerseys a highlight at the Paralympics,” he concluded. (Z-6)
