Public finances are preparing to reimburse nearly 15 million households of several hundred euros, collected by taxes in 2022. The sum amounts to 844 euros on average and concerns all assets having suffered too high a withholding tax and all those benefiting from tax reductions or credits.
While inflation remains at a high level and the price of electricity will increase by 10% from August 1, the news is enough to relieve. From this Monday, nearly 15 million French people will have a very good surprise on their bank account. The General Directorate of Public Finance (DGFIP) plans to pay them the overflow collected by taxes. If your income was revised downwards last year, it is possible that the deduction at source made was overstated. The sum will therefore be returned to you either this Monday or Wednesday, August 2.
Benefiting from tax reductions or credits also makes it possible to be eligible for tax refunds. This is a “return of tax reductions or credits for certain expenses incurred in 2022 such as, for example, donations, home employment expenses, childcare or rental investments”, specifies the DGFIP on its website.
A regularization that takes place every year
In total, 13 million euros are regarding to be paid to all those who paid too much tax last year. This corresponds to an amount of 844 euros per household on average. Last year, only 13.7 million households were affected. Because this regularization of the payment of tax occurs every year in the middle of summer since the introduction of the withholding tax on January 1, 2019. It follows the famous tax return, completed in the spring.
All those who will benefit from it will not have to take any action. The sum will be paid directly into the bank account of the person concerned. The transfer will bear the wording “REMB TAX REVENUS”. And if Public Finance does not have your bank details, you will receive a check in the mail.
Some will, on the contrary, have to pay a balance of taxes
However, there is also a situation in which the public finances would not have received enough money. This regularization, which will therefore oblige certain taxpayers to pay a balance of taxes, will be mentioned on the tax notice between July 26 and August 4 next. Less good news, which will however concern fewer people: around 9.6 million French people according to figures from the DGFIP sent to the Echos. On the other hand, the sums will be greater since each household will have to pay a payment of 2,259 euros on average. A direct debit which will be made in several installments by the end of the year, if the sum is greater than 300 euros.
