Millions of dollars worth of weapons from Mexico seized in El Salvador, where were they taking them?

The National Navy of El Salvador seized a arsenal (with different types of weapons) that was carrying a speedboat from Mexico with apparent destination to Ecuador y 1.2 tons of cocaine on Ecuadorian vessels sailing in the waters of the Pacific, Salvadoran President Juan Carlos I reported on Friday, Nayib Bukele.

In his account on the social network X, Bukele pointed out that the The seized drugs have an approximate value of 30 million dollarswhich is why he welcomed the blows that the Salvadoran naval forces have dealt to the organized crime networks that operate in the region.

“Our National Navy intercepted “The three vessels involved in this operation were successfully seized,” said the president, who noted that the drugs were on two of the vessels of Ecuadorian origin.

Bukele added that the operation of the National Navy began on August 6 after intercepting a Mexican vessel with three Guatemalans on board, who allegedly confessed that “they planned to pick up drugs further south”.

What weapons were in the arsenal from Mexico seized in El Salvador?

Buekele said that in that first boat, the arsenal which was supposedly going to be sent to Ecuador, which was made up of:

• 12 rifles AR-15
• 20 AK-47 rifles
• 1 M60 machine gun
• 1 Barret 50 sniper rifle

Later, on August 15, the Salvadoran Navy found the two boats, which were carrying 600 kilograms of the alkaloid each one.

“We have reached a new record for the greatest distance of seizure: 1,004 nautical miles (1,859 kilometers) from our coasts,” Bukele said.

He added that in the last 90 days, 100,000 pesos have been seized. 9.3 tons of cocaine on the high seas, valued at $233 million.

El Salvador is part of a list of the United States Government of the highest production and narcotics transitannounced last year, along with countries such as Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, MexicoNicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Peru and Venezuela.

The President of the United States sends this list to Congress every year to determine the budget dedicated to combating drug trafficking.
