The first stage leads from Fuschlsee (Flachgau) across the German corner to Mittersill (Pinzgau) – also crossing the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. On the second day, the journey continues from Mittersill via Zell am See and Maria Alm (all Pinzgau), then through the Lammertal (Tennengau) and on to St. Gilgen (Flachgau). The final destination is the Residenzplatz in Salzburg’s old town, where the old racing cars can be admired. Tourism representative Stefan Schnöll from the ÖVP speaks of an important stimulus for the off-season.
When asked whether another classic car race would not undermine efforts to increase public transport and reduce the number of cars, Schnöll said: “I am always against symbolic debates. And if you believe that this race with 35 vehicles has a negative effect on the climate, then you are very naive – I think. I think we need to turn other screws here and I can only point to the efforts we are making in public transport. I think they speak a clear language.”
The warm-up for the Mille Miglia in Salzburg lasts three days – between 26 and 29 September.
