“The message to future refugees is sent concretely and very quickly. Can you imagine how all the stars and rich people who fled Russia are sleeping restlessly now?” said the analyst.
E. Papečkys noted that the pilot lived alone in Spain, without any protection, hiding under another name with a Ukrainian passport. Then the man was allegedly tracked down by a special group, which, targeting the right moment, shot him.
“As I understand it, he was tracked down when he summoned his wife. As in a banal thriller, when a person who is hiding picks up and calls his loved one. But very similar to the truth. It is said that the Spanish authorities knew nothing, and this is very likely.
In any case, Ukraine suffered reputational damage and the Kremlin, disappointingly, won yet another information war victory. The message to future refugees is sent concretely and very quickly. Can you imagine how all the stars and rich people who escaped from Russia are now sleeping restlessly?”
Spain provided new documents but no protection
The Spanish authorities themselves granted Russian pilot Maksim Kuzminov new documents, but no protection. This is reported by the Spanish newspaper “El País”.
“The residence of the Spanish prime minister provided him with forged documents, but not a defense,” the publication said in a statement. It is not specified which documents are in question.
Before that, another Spanish newspaper reported that M. Kuzminov disguised himself as Ihori Shevchenko.
February 19 Mr. Kuzminov was found dead in Spain with six gunshot wounds and run over by a car.
Spain has no doubt that the murder is linked to Russia
The Spanish security services have no doubt that Moscow linked to the murder of former Russian military pilot Maksim Kuzminov, who fled to Ukraine in a Mi-8 helicopter. This is what his sources told the Spanish newspaper “El País” earlier.
At the same time, the newspaper emphasizes that the Spanish authorities are still publicly taking an extremely cautious approach to the incident and are not accusing the Kremlin, saying that the investigation must be completed first.
According to the sources, Madrid is ready to “give a decisive response” to Russia if enough evidence is gathered regarding its involvement in the assassination.
Escaped with a helicopter
M. Kuzminov was a captain of the Russian army who graduated from the Syzran Aviation School. The 28-year-old soldier, by his own admission, opposed the war in Ukraine and was in contact with the Ukrainian security services. August 9 he flew to the territory controlled by the Ukrainian government in a helicopter, which was used to transport spare parts for a fighter jet. Two senior lieutenants flew with him: 35-year-old navigator Khushbacht Tursunov and 28-year-old technician Nikita Kirjanov. They did not take part in the escape and are suspected to have died while trying to escape to Russian territory.
In a report of the state television channel “Rossiya 1”, correspondent Sergey Zenin said that the officers of the special forces of the Ministry of Defense received an order to kill M. Kuzminov. One of them said that the pilot will be found and punished “according to all the laws of our state for treason”, while another added that Mr. Kuzminov “will not face trial”.
