Military area in Aalborg must contribute to NATO’s fight against Russia

This is stated by the North Jutland Police in a press release.

From 4 August at 19:00 to 10 August at 23:00, the designated area in Østhavnen will be used for shipping equipment for a combat battalion from the Army’s 1st Brigade, which is traveling to Latvia during August, the Defense Command informs.

The army’s 1st Brigade is an independent unit that contributes to NATO’s collective defense – among other things as part of the alliance’s work to keep Russia in check.

– The battalion is part of NATO’s preparedness and deployment in Eastern Europe with a view to deterring Russia from aggressive actions against NATO countries, says the Defense Command in a written response.

It is material for this battalion that must be sent from the port in Aalborg. The term materiel covers all the equipment that the Armed Forces handle.

According to the Defense Command, the battalion consists of a staff, a staff company, an armored infantry company, a mechanized infantry company, a tank squadron and a fire support element.

In addition, the combat battalion is supplemented by logistical and command support as well as by an armored engineer company.

It appears from the North Jutland Police press release that the military area will be marked with fences and signage.

In addition, the area will be located in the cordoned-off part of the business port, where there is already no access to the public, the press release states.

The area will be guarded by the Armed Forces.

Port of Aalborg is one of Denmark’s largest commercial ports.
