SINGER Miley Cyrus, 31, expressed her gratitude for the role of Hannah Montana that catapulted her to teen pop stardom in an Instagram post Monday (Aug. 12), a day after being named a Disney Legend at D23.
“Thank you. It is a great honor to be named a Disney Legend,” Cyrus wrote in the caption.
“This award is dedicated to Hannah Montana and all of her fans. You have shown legendary love and loyalty. Forever grateful.”
In the message, the former Disney star shared a video of herself giving an acceptance speech at the event in Anaheim, California, as well as footage of herself making a handprint in cement on a plaque, a tradition that has been followed by previous Disney Legend award recipients.
Cyrus is seen at the beginning of the clip signing her name at the top of the plaque before placing her hand in the cement below. She is then joined by Mickey Mouse as the two pose for a photo while holding the plaque.
On Sunday, August 11, Cyrus appeared very emotional as she took the stage to accept her Disney Legend title, making history as the youngest person ever to receive the honor.

Cyrus recalled her early days on Hannah Montana in 2005 in a tearful speech, joking she was “definitely not created in a lab” as a “Disney kid.”
She also revealed to the audience that she wasn’t the first choice to play the iconic Disney character. “I had a glimpse of what my life could be like, and from that moment on, I wouldn’t have wanted anything else.”
“I stand here still proud to have been Hannah Montana,” the “Flowers” singer continued.

“In many ways, this award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her incredible, loyal fans, and to everyone who has made my dreams come true. To quote the legend herself, ‘This is life,’” she added.
The musician was honored at the event on Sunday with a tribute performance from Lainey Wilson. The country singer introduced the star with a special message and a performance of the Hannah Montana theme song, “Best of Both Worlds.”
Cyrus made her big debut playing Hannah Montana in the hit Disney Channel show of the same name in 2006. The show followed teenager Miley Stewart (Cyrus) who secretly led a double life as famous pop star Hannah Montana.
The Disney series ran for four seasons until 2011. In 2009, Cyrus also appeared in Hannah Montana: The Movie and headlined the Best of Both Worlds tour two years later. (People/Z-3)
