The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, spoke on Wednesday with Sean Rad, co-founder of Tinder, to continue garnering support from prominent tech leaders as members of Congress began debate on their top legislative priority.
“Just had a conference call with @seanrad,” Milei posted on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter. He and Rad, who helped launch the popular dating app, agreed “hold a meeting in Buenos Aires with other great entrepreneurs of the technological world,” Milei said.
The announcement of the technological summit is an example of the Milei’s efforts to attract investment and project confidence, even as it implements austerity measures that it recognizes will cause short-term economic hardship.

The call took place at the time when the Lower House of Congress began the debate of the huge omnibus bill promoted by Milei, a broad package of reforms and measures that make up his “shock therapy” plan for the weakened Argentine economy. The president has eliminated some key provisions in an attempt to win approval of the bill in a fragmented Congress, in which his party has a small minority.
The vote might take place on Wednesday, although the debate might continue throughout the week.
Milei, who took office on December 10, inherited a deep economic crisis, with an inflation rate greater than 200% that has plunged almost half of the country into poverty. On Tuesday, the International Monetary Fund cut its growth projection for Argentina, forecasting South America’s second-largest economy to contract for two consecutive years amid Milei’s austerity campaign.
Support from technology leaders
Rad, who stepped down as Tinder CEO in 2016, joins the list of technology leaders who support Milei. Elon Musk is one of his most ardent supporters and recently reposted the president’s full speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on X. Rad’s most recent post on the site also deals with the speech.
In December, Milei modified a law by decree to implement Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service in Argentina. Other technology executives, including Marcos Galperin, CEO of MercadoLibre Inc., and Martín Migoya, head of Globant, have also expressed their support for the libertarian leader.
