Milei government authorizes increases in public services

The Government of Argentina, chaired by the far-right Javier Milei, has authorized increases in electricity, gas and fuel rates, in accordance with its policy of economic adjustments that are suffocating the people of the South American country.

The Ministry of Economy has authorized increases of 4% in electricity and gas bills, while in the case of gasoline, adjustments of around 2,5% are expected.

Utility increases were recently applied to tap water in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA), implying a 5,16% increase as of August.

With the elimination of subsidies, in July the payment of electricity, water, gas and transportation represented 15% of the income of a primary AMBA farm, according to the UBA Rates and Subsidies Observatory. In December he increased 6,2% of his salary.

The liberal government of President Javier Milei advocates a policy of fiscal cuts and liberalization of the economy aimed at making room for chronic inflation in the country, according to the authorities, but in record time it has plummeted the purchasing power of the people and has multiplied the poverty in the country.

In June, inflation in Argentina shortened five consecutive months of deceleration, rising 4,6% compared to May.
