Mild earthquake in Lima
Last Monday, a magnitude 4 earthquake shook in the province of Yauyos, located in the mountains of the Lima region, with no victims or material damage reported.
Peru is located in an area known as the Pacific Ring of Fire, where more than 80% of the world’s seismic activity is generated.
The last devastating earthquake in Peru occurred off the coastal city of Pisco in August 2007, when a magnitude 7.9 earthquake affected that town and the entire southern region of Ica. This disaster left more than 500 dead and caused million-dollar losses in infrastructure and homes.
