Venezuelan Carlos Milano won the duel against his compatriot Juan Fontena and Universidad de Concepción (UDEC) continues at full speed in the defense of its Chile Cup title, after beating ABA Ancud 89-77.

In the match held at the Ancud Fiscal Gymnasium, El Campanil relied on 32 points and 10 rebounds from Stephen Maxwell to remain undefeated in the tournament after three appearances. For the Ancuditans it was their debut in the cup event, after their commitments in the South American League.

Milano appeared with four points and two rebounds for the university students, while for the Ancuditanos, Fontena from Carupan produced four points, three catches and three assists.

In this Saturday’s clash, Milano stood out with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and two recoveries, and UDEC dispatched Español de Osorno 77-74.

Likewise, in Valdivia, Fontena distinguished himself with 13 cards, eight boards, one delivery and one steal, and ABA Ancud achieved its first victory after defeating Las Ánimas 91-86.

Larense point guard Deiker Salcedo deposited a layup with one minute left to play and Universidad Católica beat Español de Talca 64-62.

Salcedo was decisive with 11 goals, four rebounds, four assists and a block. The guaro point guard had been the most outstanding in last Friday’s clash, when the Catholics defeated Colo Colo 76-69. Then, Salcedo contributed 16 points, four rebounds, assists and two recoveries.

Merida without luck

At the María Gallardo Monumental Gymnasium, Español de Osorno dominated Atlético Puerto Varas 80-78.

Despite the five points in a row that Guyana’s Luis “Lobo” Mérida scored in the last 25 seconds, it was not enough for the Portovarians.

Mérida appeared with 11 points, five boards, a decisive pass and a recovered ball.
