Milan, Turin and Genoa allied to build the mobility of the future

«In this photograph – explains Ferruccio Resta from the podium pointing to the maxi-screen – there are two self-driving cars: the one on the left is ours, a prototype. The one on the right is already part of an operational business in San Francisco.” Making sure that Italy and Europe compared to the USA do not lose the “train” of applications in hi-tech mobility, as happened on the web, is the point that the president of the National Center for Sustainable Mobility puts to the audience gathered in Assolombarda .

Where for the first time, together with the largest territorial group of Confindustria, the business associations of Genoa and Turin, with their respective Chambers of Commerce, also come together for the Mobility Conference, in a network of events which saw the same theme discussed at the same time also in the capitals of Piedmont and Liguria.

Historic industrial triangle that has evolved over time, adding services, intangible goods and technology to manufacturing in the strict sense, with a constantly increased demand for mobility, thus making investments in infrastructure, physical and beyond, increasingly crucial.

«We believe that this area – explains the president of Assolombarda Alessandro Spada – must take on a driving role on some key issues of our future. For this reason, we have been working online on various strategic matches for some time. As with mobility, innovative and sustainable, which takes advantage of capillary connections. Connections that are the strength of the Milan – Turin – Genoa axis and which are crucial for conquering more and more markets at an international level. Hence the need to invest in cutting-edge infrastructure capable of better connecting our territories to each other and to the rest of Italy and Europe.”

Turin-Lyon, new Brenner base tunnel, completion of the high-speed train to Venice and quadrupling of the Milan-Pavia-Tortona railway connection to the Terzo Valico dei Giovi are the priorities outlined, aiming to strengthen the Rhine-Alpine and Mediterranean corridors Lisbon-Kiev, routes that intersect the Genoa-Milan-Turin axis. «And the objective – adds Spada – is to strengthen and make connections more efficient, ensuring that Genoa can become in all respects the “port” of Milan”.
