“To be honest, when I took on the role, it sounds oblivious, but I wasn’t aware of how massive the fan base was. In retrospect, discovering this devoted community has been incredible,” Madison shared. “Horror fans are just the best, but I genuinely went into the role quite naiveté.”
This lack of awareness led to some unexpected reactions when her character, Amber Freeman, was revealed to be behind the mask and responsible for the heartbreaking death of beloved character Dewey, played by David Arquette.
‘I remember feeling genuinely sad for Dewey,” Madison recalled.
“And then I realized everyone was devastated, not just me.” She lightheartedly adds, “Then people started coming up to me, telling me, “I hate this. I’m mad at you.’And my response? ‘I’m so confused. I wrote the script, did I kill his character!”
Embracing the Unexpected
Initially, Madison saw the role as a “really fun” opportunity. “I loved the idea of playing Ghostface. The character arc is so interesting and unpredictable.
Being invited into the franchise is a huge honor, and the fans are amazing,
even if they’re still mad at me for what happened to Dewey!
