Mike Ward Under Listening: Comedy Podcast of the Year Delights Over 11,000 Fans at Videotron Center

About 2 million monthly listeners, a Bell Center at full capacity, a tour of Europe, comedy podcast of the year several times at the Gala des Oliviers, Mike Ward added the Videotron Center to his list on Saturday evening when more than 11,000 faithful were present for the recording of an episode of Mike Ward Under Listening.

It was following a video montage retracing the history of the podcast since its creation in 2011 that Mike Ward entered from the back of the room to a standing ovation in the image of a boxer.

He then climbed into his ring under the Ole Ole ole a crowd. Beer in hand and a smile on his lips, he settled on his throne before proving once once more to everyone that he is the king of French-speaking podcasts.

Distinguished guests

It was around a table that he received his guests who were still unknown to the public before entering the stage. He first received his co-host Jean-Thomas Jobin to join him on stage to the delight of the thunderous audience.

Present on TV, on the radio and not to say everywhere for a few years, comedian Christine Morency followed the ball, coming to sit at the table wearing a dress with “bouquets of penises”, like her style of humor.

Well known in the world of humor, the recipient in the humorous Podcast category without script of the year at the Gala des Oliviers in 2021, Thomas Levac also made his debut alongside Christine Morency.

Wandering around sexuality, autism as well as other fairly raw themes, the quartet will have been able to bring out a lot of laughter among the some 11,000 spectators who got their money’s worth on Saturday evening.

Mike Ward, however, was able to avoid excesses or more sensitive subjects by leading the evening with an iron fist once once more, as he has done so well for more than 400 episodes now.

Alcohol is flowing

However, it was alcohol that was the biggest star on stage, giving rise to a few confessions as well as comical moments reminiscent of the viral fall of Jean-Thomas Jobin at the Bell Center last year.

This anecdote was also an integral part of the evening. The latter then launched to the public that he would not abuse alcohol as much as he had done in Montreal.

To send him back the device, the public however made a fuss of booing him every time he spoke, until he took a shooter.

Christine Morency has also spoiled herself by chaining drinks one following the other and even asking that the bottle of rum be brought to her at the table.

The public also indulged in alcohol, while it was almost rare to see spectators without a glass in hand and if this was not the case it will surely not have prevented them from having a good time.

A member of the public had quite an experience by having the chance to be invited by Mike Ward to do a few minutes of stand up, a moment that he will no doubt remember for the rest of his life.

The evening finally came to a close as the comedian was presented with his Guinness World Record plaque as he put his name in the world record books a year ago for the most tickets sold for a podcast recording. The Bell Center was then full to bursting for this historic evening.

“It touches me so much, tonight we are just over 11,000 is only the third time that a podcast has been recorded in front of so many people. Thank you very much”, launched Mike Ward.

“I started doing comedy in the 90s and I didn’t think I would have such a long career,” he concluded, probably very happy with the evening.

A well-heated crowd

Even if his performance only lasted a few minutes, the young Étienne Moore, who is currently causing a sensation on TikTok, received a good dose of love and laughter as the curtain rose, by chaining a few little jokes.

He then gave way to Josiane Aubuchon, a humorist who certainly deserves to be better known. The one who participated in the second season of the Prochain stand-up was certainly a great revelation for many in the amphitheater who had a great time in his company listening to his hilarious life stories.

The Denis Drolets have finally concluded this first part in the best possible way. When spectators heard the famous “Rince Crème” sound in the Videotron Center, they were already won over. They also continued by producing an episode of their podcast, already well known and loved by the public.

Despite some issues with the screens above the stage necessitating the use of the jumbotron, the crowd mightn’t have been warmed up better. This technical problem will have also allowed Josiane Aubuchon to gain a few more minutes on stage in addition to winning the love of the public.
