SAN DIEGO — Los Angeles Angels star center fielder Mike Trout underwent surgery on his broken left wrist Wednesday, two days following he was injured on a foul ball.

“I spoke to Mike, he just got out of surgery. He feels good, ”manager Phil Nevin indicated before the last one once morest the San Diego Padres. “The surgery went well. We spoke to the doctor a minute ago, but everything seems to have gone very well.”

Also Wednesday, star Shohei Ohtani was added to the lineup as designated hitter a day following he left the game in the sixth inning with a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand. Ohtani later said he won’t pitch in next week’s All-Star Game and it remains to be seen if he will be an American League designated hitter.

There is no date yet for Trout’s return, though recovery from this surgery regularly takes weeks.

“It remains to be seen how Trout’s hand responds as he begins treatment and rehabilitation,” Nevin added. “I know he is eager to continue.”

The slugger fouled a pitch on an 0-1 count by Nick Martinez leading off the eighth inning, immediately flailing his left arm.

Trout, a three-time AL MVP, was named to his 11th All-Star Game on Sunday — with a 10th consecutive selection as a starter. He has a .263 batting average with 18 home runs and 44 RBIs this season.
