This is what the family of the 65-year-old man told the TVA Sports network on Monday.

Earlier in the day, several American media had wrongly announced the death of the legendary sniper.

«[Les membres de la famille] thank those who support him in these difficult times and wish to respect his privacy, ”wrote TVA Sports in a post on Twitter.

Last October, the man-turned-analyst for the sports network announced in a letter to fans that he would have to take a break from his television role to receive treatment for lung cancer.

“I can assure you that I intend to fight with all the determination and all the passion that you have seen me display on the ice and in my game. This same determination that has helped me achieve my dreams and count my goals, the one that propelled me to the top of my sport, when I was still lacing my skates,” Bossy wrote at the time.

In the NHL, the Montreal native played 10 seasons in the uniform of the New York Islanders and greatly contributed to the four Stanley Cup conquests of this organization between 1980 and 1983.

Bossy had 573 goals and 553 assists for 1,126 points in 752 regular season games. He also had 160 points (85-75) in 129 playoff games.
