Mikati to the French Foreign Minister: The gateway to the solution is to stop Israel’s aggression against Lebanon

Lebanon – Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati confirmed on Monday that the current approach to the current bloody escalation is “stopping the Israeli aggression” against Lebanon.

Since September 23, Israel has launched the “most violent and widespread” attack on Lebanon since the confrontations began about a year ago, resulting as of Monday morning at least 923 dead, including children and women, and 2,715 wounded, according to Anatolia’s monitoring of Lebanese authorities’ data, and amid Fears of the outbreak of a regional war.

Meanwhile, sirens continue to sound at an unprecedented rate across Israel, following massive launching by Lebanese factions of missiles, drones, and artillery shells targeting military sites and settlements, amid a strict blackout from Israeli military oversight of human and material losses, according to observers.

On Monday, Mikati met in Beirut with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, in the presence of the French Ambassador to Lebanon, Hervé Magro, and Mikati’s diplomatic advisor, Ambassador Boutros Asaker.

Mikati stressed, during the meeting, that “the gateway to the solution is to stop the Israeli aggression against Lebanon, and return to the call launched (a few days ago) by the United States and France, with the support of the European Union and Arab and foreign countries, for a ceasefire.”

He believed that “the priority is to implement International Resolution 1701.”

On August 11, 2006, the UN Security Council adopted this resolution, which calls for a complete cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel.

It also calls for the creation of an area between the Blue Line (separating Lebanon and Israel) and the Litani River in southern Lebanon that is free of any militants, military equipment and weapons, except for those belonging to the Lebanese Army and the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL).

Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Katz, in a letter addressed to his counterparts in 25 countries, stipulated for the ceasefire to move Hezbollah to the north of the Litani River and disarm it, according to the (official) Broadcasting Corporation on Monday.

For decades, Israel has occupied Arab lands in Lebanon, Syria and Palestine.

During his meeting with Mikati, Barrow stressed “the priority of electing the President of the Republic and working to stop armed confrontations.”

Due to disagreements between political forces and not without external interference, the Lebanese Parliament has not been able for nearly two years to elect a new president for the country, which suffers from a vacancy in the position.

Barrow added, “France supports Lebanon and its people at all levels, and is very interested in supporting and assisting the army in these delicate circumstances.”

On Sunday, Barrow began a visit to Lebanon, the duration and program of which were not announced
