Mikael Ymer was disqualified from the Lyon tennis tournament on Wednesday following violently hitting the referee’s chair during the match once morest the Frenchman Arthur Son.
The Swede, 53rd player in the world, had challenged an arbitration decision a few moments earlier, believing that his opponent’s return was in the hallway and not on the line.
The 24-year-old repeatedly invited the chair umpire down to the court to check the mark left by the ball on the clay court. A proposal declined without real justification.
Ymer’s rage erupted minutes later when Arthur Fils broke the Swede to lead 6-5 in the first set. Two violent racquet blows were delivered to the referee’s chair, inevitably causing damage.
A behavior that has not been forgiven since Ymer was disqualified and sent home.
