SAN CRISTOBAL.- The presidential candidate of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), Miguel Vargas Maldonado, reiterated his concern regarding the “level of regression” that, in his opinion, various areas of the Dominican Republic present.
Vargas spoke in the community of Nigua, in this province, at an event in which Benito Reyes (Maniquín) was proclaimed candidate for mayor.
“Today it is possible to verify, regardless of the politicking, that the educational system is the subject of a waste of resources of 4% of the gross domestic product. Likewise, violations of fundamental rights have been evident, such as those denounced by the United Nations,” he declared.
«IMPAIRMENT AND FALLACY»
He added that “we Dominicans have been able to confirm the deterioration and fallacy of this government.”
He said that “to all this, we will add the increases that are projected in air ticket rates starting next January, which constitute an attack on one of the country’s main sources of foreign currency and that, following the COVID pandemic -19, meant macroeconomic stability and the source of the economic rebound that we are experiencing.”
BUDGET DEFICIT
“Now we learn of the worrying situation of the budget deficit that the government accuses, registered within the framework of the budget modification,” he added.
AERODOM CONTRACT IS QUESTIONED
He said that the renegotiation of the Dominican airport contract has come as a surprise to the Dominican people. In his opinion “this is an action plagued by opacity, which shows the need of the current government to cover the budget deficit and its desire to do business in the face of deterioration in aspects where important progress had been made.”
He indicated that the renegotiation of that contract threatens tourism and, consequently, “we will pay the most expensive plane tickets.”
“Definitely, dishonesty and flagrant violation of local and international laws, principles and agreements are part of the mark and indelible stain of this terrible government,” he said.
