2024-01-11 04:40:16

After two seasons at the San José Earthquakes of the MLS (Major League Soccer), Miguel Trauco packed his bags and left this Wednesday night for Brazil, to take on his fourth international experience, this time at Criciúma, a club that returns to the Brazilian top division following a decade. The full-back, intercepted by the press at the airport, took time to give his impressions, briefly, regarding the Peruvian team and the great expectations generated by the arrival of Jorge Fossati to the technical direction. Of course, when asked regarding the opportunity to sign for Universitario de Deportes to be a participant in the Centennial plan, the 31-year-old footballer was blunt: “They never called me.”

With a total of 29 games and 3 goals since 2022, Miguel Trauco left the San José Earthquakes on the verge of the University Centennial. His public support and the context gave rise to a loud rumor: it was possible to see him dressed in cream this 2024. However, and although it seemed that circumstances might allow it, the Peruvian national team full-back ended up signing for Criciúma of Brazil.

At the Jorge Chávez, minutes following taking the plane, Trauco was sincere when asked regarding the reasons that kept him away from Universitario for this season. The sentence left the ‘U’ as the main party responsible. “They never called me, so on that side I mightn’t tell you what happened, but I never had the proposal from them,” said the former Flamengo and Saint Étienne.

Brazil, old acquaintance

Meanwhile, regarding the expectations generated by returning to a country where he already knew how to earn a place, he stressed that he remains at a competitive level, this with the aim of continuing to integrate the Peruvian team. “I am very excited, I know that Brazilian football is very competitive. The idea is to maintain myself to continue being eligible. My idea is that and I’m going for that more than anything,” he said.

“It is a football that I have known for a long time. I am sorry for not having renewed in the United States but happy for this new challenge,” he added.

Regarding his priorities, the footballer reaffirmed that at 31 years old his priority continues to be playing abroad. “There were some proposals from Peru that did not come to fruition because my priority was to continue playing abroad. That was what I prioritized from the first minute and thank God this opportunity is being given,” he said.

The national team and Fossati

Finally, regarding the arrival of Jorge Fossati to the Peruvian team, replacing Juan Reynoso, he confessed that he has not yet spoken with other teams, but reiterated his desire to continue fighting in the Qualifiers: “I have not spoken (with teammates), but The expectation is the same as always… to be competing at the highest level. Yes, this is not over and we are all confident that we can reverse this (in the Qualifiers).”
