Yamaha Factory Racing Signees Oliveira and Miller Test
Miguel Oliveira is ready to ride for a new team, fueled by a new motorcycle, and facing a fresh set of challenges in the upcoming MotoGP season.
The Portuguese rider, who is 29 years old, recently joined forces with Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team. During a press event in Porto, he expressed his enthusiasm for the new undertaking.
“Yamaha and I will work closely. It’s a highly ambitious project and we’re at the beginning. This agreement signifies the brand is changing with the times. This will be a team outside the official Yamaha, yet we’ll have the exact same bikes and support as the factory team. This is significant,” Oliveira shared.
“It was a less than satisfactory year,” Oliveira said, adding that was a challenge. “Having a bike that seems identical, but lacking support to fine-tune it is agonizing. Yamaha’s structure intends to assist our team, which in turn inspires new ideas. I believe we’ll do well – the team is a world champion, so we’re starting in a truly good position.”
Moving forward, Oliveira, a highly experienced rider, believes the substantial pushback he’s experienced with his wrist injury makes him stronger, and he is determined to make this transition a success.
“I made a fantastic recovery, motivators have been playing a vital role in helping me regain fitness. Two months to recover, naturally most of kinds of recovery are being done off the bike. I’ve talked to my team, my therapist, and everyone who’s involved – the plan is to be more than 100% back in shape by the time we step onto the Sepang track.”
Oliveira’s sights are definitely set on returning to run among the front-runners:
“I aim for a top 10 finish. “This season, Ducati only putting two bikes on the track makes this attainable. To me, this means a great adjustment in what I am looking for. This doesn’t mean we aren’t ambitious, but the great thing about being in MotoGP is that anyone can win on any given Sunday.
“In go will be completely focused on making small gains.”

**Miguel Oliveira:** It’s hugely significant. Having the full backing and resources of Yamaha is crucial for success in MotoGP. Last year was tough; riding a bike that looked the part but lacked the necessary fine-tuning support was incredibly frustrating. With Yamaha’s commitment to our team, we’ll be able to explore new ideas and push boundaries.
**Interviewer:** You’ve spoken before about your wrist injury setbacks. How has this experience shaped your perspective as you head into the 2025 season?
**Miguel Oliveira:** I wouldn’t say it’s been easy, but the recovery process has made me incredibly resilient. I’ve benefited from excellent support, and I’m feeling strong now, both physically and mentally. I’m determined to carry that determination and focus into this new season.
