After a day of rest, this Friday, the high mountains reached the exciting Vuelta a San Juan, a race held in Argentina that has the great presence of Colombian runners such as Miguel Ángel López, Egan Bernal, Fernando Gaviria, and more.
After the great victory obtained last Wednesday by Fernando Gaviria, the Colombian flag waved high once more following ‘Supermán’ López will fly and win the fifth stage.
The Boyacá native, who is racing with Team Medellín this season following leaving Astana, showed what he is made of and gave a hard blow in the high mountains. López made a wide difference over his rivals and reached the goal alone, keeping what is his first victory in this 2023 with the Antioquia team.
Claim exhibition of Superman López. Arriving alone in the hardest port of #VueltaSJ23 . It’s a real shame that he doesn’t have World Tour space (or a better head) because he’s spectacular when he’s in shape. pic.twitter.com/fgYOtMijiM

López set a time of 4 hours, 7 minutes and 10 seconds and prevailed with great authority on arrival at Alto del Colorado (1st Cat. with 18.8 km at 4.4%) ahead of the Italian Filippo Ganna (ITA/Ineos Grenadiers) and the Colombian Sergio Higuita (Bora-Hansgrohe), second and third respectively.
With this victory, Supermán took the leader’s jersey, removing Fernando Gaviria from this place, who had taken the lead last Wednesday.
