The Federation of Migros Cooperatives (FCM) wants to operate its supermarkets via a centrally managed autonomous company, a project on which the regional cooperatives will have to decide by May 24.

“This decision lays the foundations for the future success of the Migros supermarket business,” said Ursula Nold, president of the FCM administration, quoted in the press release on Thursday. If validated by the cooperatives, the new entity should be operational from 1 January.

The future entity will be a subsidiary of the FCM, with a specific board of directors and management. Its supervisory body will include representatives of the parent company and regional cooperatives, who will be responsible for market development, operational distribution and the network of points of sale.
