Legendary game designer Tim Cain continues his story regarding past projects, implemented and remained at the level of the idea. And in his new video, he told that the studio Troika Games tried to create a game from the series Might & Magic.
In 2003, the studio released a role-playing game The Temple of Elemental Evil. At this time, Ubisoft bought the rights to the Might & Magic series from the bankrupt 3DO. And shortly following that, the developers were asked if they would like to take on the next game in the series.
To form an offer, Kane replayed every released Might & Magic game, from one to nine, to get an idea of what fans of the series should expect from the tenth installment.
He called the class system, the development of skills and their ranks the postulates of all games (they were later used in The secret), building or exploring fortresses, traveling circuses, quests to increase rank, fountains for temporary stat boosts, aging, and hidden passages and traps.
In late 2003, Kane produced a game design document called Might & Magic X: The Source of Magic 25 pages, and was sent to Ubisoft in early 2004.
According to the plot idea, the local magician asked our hero to find out why the monsters suddenly attacked a small village. After the study, the group found a non-working artifact in a nearby cemetery, which was supposed to scare away skeletons and zombies.
In the future, we would find out that in some areas magic stopped working altogether, and somewhere it worked even better. And the storyline led the squad to the source of all magic and those who tried to control it.
Kane even created a map of the world, on which he marked with different colors (red, yellow, blue and green) zones in which magic did not work at all, where it worked as before and where it became stronger or weaker. With his developing color blindness, this was not an easy task.
The game designer does not know what happened to his business proposal, since the studio did not receive any response from Ubisoft. A Might & Magic X came out only in 2014, with the subtitle Legacy. It was developed by Limbic Entertainment.
