More than 260 sick and precarious children, aged 5 to 18, took advantage of the attractions of the Midi fair in Brussels for free on Thursday afternoon, under the sun. In total, 12 associations were invited by the showmen, including Amarrage, Smiles, Make-A-Wish, OHANA, GESED and Belgium Ear Connections.

We came with about twenty children. They are really very happy to be there“, enthuses a volunteer from the non-profit association ClassContact, also present at the event. The association allows sick children to follow lessons remotely so that they can have a social life and avoid dropping out of school.

Britt Herbots, forward of the national volleyball team, also took part in this special day as godmother of the 143rd edition of the fair. The Brussels DJ Daddy K, sponsor of the fair, and Fabian Maingain (DéFI), Alderman for Economic Affairs of the City of Brussels, were also present. “The fair is a dream for young and old. We can make these children and sometimes their families live a day of escape“, confides the alderman. “Sick Children’s Day has been taking place for about twenty years. We want to perpetuate this beautiful day.“Today, this initiative is also aimed at disadvantaged children.”We really want to give access to the fair to everyone“, adds Fabian Maingain.

So that they can be recognized by the fairgrounds, the children and their 138 companions received white, flocked T-shirts “South Fair” in fluorescent letters. Last year, more than 180 children had already been able to experience good times, at the initiative of the fairgrounds, with the actress Virginie Hocq.
