In the course of Israel’s fight against Hamas, Iran and Turkey want to show strength. Further destabilization would also harm Europeans.

Iranian missiles and drones are hitting targets from Syria to Iraq to Pakistan in a widespread wave of attacks. In the Red Sea, Yemeni militias attack merchant ships and are bombed by US aircraft. The Turkish Air Force destroys electricity plants in northern Syria. The highly armed Lebanese militia Hezbollah fires rockets into northern Israel and Israel’s army fires back. At the same time, Israel is continuing its massive campaign in the Gaza Strip: where more than 100 people from Israel are still languishing in hostage prisons held by Hamas and other terrorist groups; and where the humanitarian situation for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians is becoming more and more catastrophic and the destruction more and more devastating. The Gaza war is fueling conflicts that have been simmering for years. This threatens further destabilization, which would also be felt by neighboring Europe – as was the case with Syria.
