Microsoft’s Windows Update Patching System: What You Need to Know

2024-02-24 17:02:00

Microsoft has begun testing an update for Windows Update that allows you to patch the operating system without having to restart your PC. This was reported by the Windows Central portal.

This algorithm will not install all updates, but only minor patches, mainly related to security. At the same time, they will accumulate over time, and for them to work correctly you will still need to restart the PC every few months. In addition, developers will release large, urgent security updates that will still require an immediate reboot.

The innovation is expected to appear in Windows 11 with the 24H2 update, which is expected to be released on PCs with x86-64 processors in 2024. The patch will be released on ARM systems in 2025. However, it is unknown whether the functionality will appear on all versions of Windows 11 or only on commercial ones, such as Enterprise, Education and 365.
