Windows Central journalist Jez Corden, as part of The Xbox Two podcast, said that Microsoft was thwarted by several acquisitions of third-party studios due to a deal with Activision Blizzard. The reporter did not reveal the names of the studios, as many people will be upset that this did not happen.
