Microsoft is testing Windows 11 Wi-Fi 7 support, expecting to achieve multi-Gbps speeds and low latency, and promoting USB 4 version 2.0 specifications and AI assistant Copilot functions.
Microsoft has launched Wi-Fi support testing for Windows 11, which is expected to provide multi-Gbps computer network speeds, transmission capacity and stability, and reduce latency.
Wi-Fi 7, also known as IEEE 802.11be Extremely High Throughput (EHT), which was officially certified last month, can provide an exclusive 320MHz ultra-wide channel in the 6 GHz spectrum, with twice the transmission capacity of Wi-Fi 6. Wi-Fi 7’s multi-link operation (MLO) support can improve traffic distribution among each connection, increasing transmission throughput and stability. In addition, the newly adopted 4K Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) technology also increases the transmission rate by 20% compared to Wi-Fi 6 1024 QAM, achieving overall data transmission efficiency.
Microsoft released Windows 11 Insider preview Build 26063 in the early beta Canary channel this week. Microsoft pointed out that Wi-Fi 7 is a revolutionary technology that enables Windows PCs to achieve multi-gigabit networking speeds, which is 4 times faster than Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E, and closer to 6 times faster than Wi-Fi 5.
If users want to obtain the innovative benefits of Wi-Fi 7, they must have wireless routers and computers that are compatible with Wi-Fi, which are currently provided by many manufacturers on the market. However, the actual transmission speed still depends on the device hardware capabilities and manufacturer.
But Insider users in the Dev channel will not get it yet because Microsoft is sending the next feature update Windows 11 24H2.
In addition to Wi-Fi 7, Microsoft also announced in January that Windows 11 will also support USB 4 version 2.0 specifications, which can provide USB transmission speeds of up to 80Gbps on USB Type-C cables.
In addition, Microsoft is also testing the controversial feature of automatically turning on the AI assistant Copilot following Windows 11 is started. This will happen on systems connected to 27-inch and 1920-pixel screens or above.
