I posed Microsoft Copilot brings an updated Windows experience that will allow users to switch between the current “pinned” behavior and the new app-like behavior, Recommended version of Microsoft Windows 11.

Today, Microsoft announced the release of Windows 11 Preview Build to Beta Channel Insiders. This release includes some notable changes including a new recommended app section in the Start menu, an improved Windows Spotlight experience, a new linked devices page in Settings, and more.

The Start menu already highlights frequently used apps and recently installed apps. Microsoft has begun testing app recommendations in the Start menu. The new recommended section will highlight new apps available from the Microsoft Store.

This new option is only available to Windows Insider users in the US beta channel and will not be available for commercial devices. Users can also turn off recommendations by going to Settings > Personalization > Get Started and turning off the “Show recommendations for tips, app promotions, and more” toggle.

Microsoft is testing some changes to the Windows Spotlight experience, and these changes will also make the Spotlight icon behave like other desktop icons, as Microsoft is testing different forms of this experience with insiders.

With Remedy 1, if the user right-clicks the Windows Spotlight icon, the Spotlight experience will launch in full screen mode, while double-clicking will open the image landing page on the desktop.

With Remedy 2, if the user right-clicks on the Windows Spotlight icon, the Spotlight experience will launch without any change to the desktop setting, while double-clicking will launch the Spotlight experience in full screen mode.

There’s a new Linked Devices page that will allow you to manage the PCs and Xboxes you’re signed in with your Microsoft account.

Microsoft is rolling out an updated Copilot in the Windows experience that will allow users to switch between the current “pinned” behavior that links Copilot to the side of the desktop, and a new behavior where Copilot will run in a regular application window that can be resized and moved around your screen.
