Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 8.1 starting from this date

preparing company Microsoft The American giant, to send notifications of end of support to users of Windows 8.1 on January 10 next year 2023, and will start sending via email next month, and this will be the first reminder of the imminent end of the support cycle for the operating system.

According to The Verge, which specializes in modern technology news, the notifications will be similar to those Microsoft used in the past to tell Windows 7 users before stopping support for the operating system.

The giant ended support for Windows 8 back in 2016, but the 8.1 patch will lose support starting January 2023. Meanwhile, extended support for Business Extended Security Update (ESU) won’t even be offered for money, so users of this version will have to upgrade to a modern operating system or work on an older operating system at their own risk.

After the release of Windows 8, aimed primarily at users of devices with touch screens, the company had to release an update that brought back the Start button and other familiar features. In 2015, Microsoft finally released Windows 10, and the history of the eighth series of operating systems finally began in moving towards its logical conclusion.

“Windows 8 stopped support on January 12, 2016 and no longer receives security updates. Therefore, if you’re using Microsoft 365 on a Windows 8 PC that’s configured for automatic updates, you won’t receive updates for Office apps, including other features, security, and quality updates.” The company said in a post.

According to Microsoft, the vast majority of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 devices do not support Windows 11, so their users are advised to purchase Windows 10 as an alternative, which will receive updates until October 14, 2025.
