A Microsoft is finally leveraging the audio quality of calls made by Teamsyour conferencing platform, with support to spatial audio. A Appleit is worth noting, introduced the technology in video calls in the FaceTime with macOS Monterey and iOS/iPadOS 15 in 2021.
In practice, spatial audio creates the illusion that individuals are positioned in the space in which they are shown on the screen, so that each individual’s voice appears to come out of their respective positions. According to Microsoft, this “will make it easier to track who is speaking and reduce meeting fatigue.”
As pointed out by The Verge, to enjoy what’s new, you’ll need wired headphones or built-in speakers from compatible devices, such as Macs with Apple Silicon. Soon, any device with Bluetooth LE support will be supported, according to Microsoft.
