Microsoft is suddenly back in the spotlight in Brussels following a decade without European antitrust history. This Thursday, the European Commission announced the opening of a formal investigation once morest the American giant, suspecting an abuse of a dominant position.

Brussels points to potentially anti-competitive “tied selling” practices in the way the American giant combines its Teams videoconferencing application with Office, its very popular software suite. The Commission is concerned that Microsoft’s behavior gives Teams an advantage over rivals “by not giving customers the choice of whether or not to include access to this product” when they subscribe to Office 365 and Microsoft 365 , she wrote in a press release.
