A Microsoft announced this Monday (18) the official release of an experimental editor for the Python programming language in Excel Labs. The idea is that the feature helps users insert longer and more complex codes into spreadsheets and cells.

According to the company, the editor supports many features included in Microsoft’s Visual Studio Code tool for Python development, including “IntelliSense, formatting, code completion, and syntax highlighting.”

Another highlight is that the editor also allows creators using Python to write some code and then click elsewhere in the Excel application. They can continue coding in the editor until they are satisfied and then apply it in Excel.

“The Python Editor shows Python cells in order of execution, as well as the code output for each cell, which can help you debug and understand your code. This is useful because Python cells in the Excel grid are executed in the main order of execution. lines”, highlighted Microsoft.

The new Python editor is now available as a companion program in Excel Labs. Excel users who do not have this add-in can go to the “Insert” tab at the top of the software and click the “Get Add-ins” option.

After having the Excel Labs add-on, the user needs to launch the Python Editor. To do this, simply go to the menu in the top right corner and select the “Resource Gallery” option. Now, just select the “Python Editor” alternative.
