Company announced Microsoft The US announced that it will introduce a new CDN service targeting businesses, with new improvements to the live video streaming service.
Microsoft’s new service follows the acquisition of Peer5 in August 2021 and the subsequent integration of the company’s service into the Teams video conferencing platform, according to technology news site techradar.
Microsoft prides itself on the fact that many companies rely on Teams as their primary tool for digital communications, meetings, and conferencing, even though it recognizes that heavy bandwidth can lead to less-than-optimal performance.
Microsoft eCDN is designed to allow users to stream video content from around the world “smoothly and securely,” according to the company’s blog.
The company hopes that the improvements in business video conferencing will attract a large number of companies that have adopted mixed work processes, as more employees resort to working from home for at least part of the week.
The tech giant is keen to stress the improved network reliability that may come from a company choosing to use its eCDN, which uses a mesh network to self-balance while increasing the number of call participants.
The company also says that the tool will be easy to adopt due to the fact that no additional installation is required on devices, and that Peer5’s expertise combined with Microsoft Cloud and Office 365 should mean this is a “trusted solution”.
Microsoft eCDN is available for $0.50 per user per month when combined with an annual subscription, although some users have already expressed dissatisfaction that this is an additional cost paid, with one comment reading: “I would like to see this as just part of the The usual MS Teams license.”
Microsoft had previously announced that it is working on a new update for its popular Teams app, which will fix one of the most annoying parts of video calls, as it will make it more clear for users to turn their webcam on or off when making a call.
According to Techradar, although this seems like an obvious advantage, Microsoft Teams users have long struggled with an unnecessary complex process of turning their cameras on or off, something the company says it will now fix. .
