Microsoft gaming division cuts 1,900 jobs, former Activision Blizzard employees and Xbox team affected

After some twists and turns, Microsoft finally successfully completed the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Soon after, it recently announced layoffs for the game department, affecting about 8% of employees.

Microsoft recently issued an internal memo stating that after the Activision, Blizzard and King teams joined Microsoft, it believed that it needed to streamline and reorganize overlapping structures to reduce unnecessary expenses and focus on core business growth. Under the layoff plan, the game department includes 1,900 people from former Activision Blizzard employees and Xbox teams will be affected.

Mike Ybarra, the former president of Activision Blizzard, has already announced that he will leave his post after the acquisition transition is completed. At the same time, his former design director Allen Adham will also leave, indicating that there will be many changes in leadership after the team joins Microsoft. In addition to personnel changes, A survival game being developed by Activision Blizzard itself will also be canceled and resources reallocated to other projects.
