Microsoft: Final Fantasy XVI, remakes of Final Fantasy VII and Silent Hill 2 will never be released on Xbox because of Sony

In documents sent to the British antitrust regulator to study the transaction between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard, the Redmond corporation noted that four major games will never be released on the Xbox due to Sony’s actions. The Japanese company allegedly “blocked” access to the releases by entering into a special agreement with each of the local publishers.

The list includes:

  • Final Fantasy VII Remake (Square Enix);
  • Final Fantasy XVI (Square Enix);
  • re-release of Silent Hill 2 (developed by Bloober Team, published by Konami).

Microsoft also indicated Bloodborne from FromSoftware as an example of a third-party studio project that was previously held hostage by the PlayStation platforms and was not released anywhere except on systems from Sony.

Recall that the British regulator must issue a verdict on the deal before March 2023.
