Earlier this year, Panos Panay, Microsoft’s chief product officer, confirmed that third-party tools are coming to Windows 11. The latest Windows 11 Insider build 25217 has added support as Microsoft demonstrates how developers can create great UI elements.
Microsoft confirmed this week that the latest version adds support for the tools, but developers and users will notice some other noticeable changes as well. This latest release adds several bug fixes and performance improvements. Some insiders have taken a peek at Chat’s new video calling interface. There are also Microsoft Store updates.
Additionally, this release confirmed that developers can start creating widgets on the Dev Channel and with WinAppSDK 1.2 preview release 2.
In this latest release, Microsoft has published a detailed list of hints, tips, and suggestions to help developers create fun widgets for all of their apps. Explain that widgets should be at a glance, reliable, useful and targeted while also being personal and up-to-date. So developers are encouraged to install the latest version and get busy.
As mentioned above, the new Windows 11 build 25217 has added some design changes to the Microsoft Store. A slight redesign has been made to clearly distinguish the games that are part of Game Pass. You’ll also see improved cloud suggestions, integrated Simplified tray suggestions, the ability to switch to full screen, and more.
Unfortunately, we don’t know when these changes will be available to the general public. Insider builds usually get the features well before the public release of Windows 11, so we’ll have to wait and see. Anyone interested in participating in creating Insider can register on the Microsoft website.
