US President Joe Biden began his State of the Union address by saying, “We are determined that liberty shall always prevail over tyranny,” to warm applause from members of Congress in both houses of Congress.
Biden began the speech by talking regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine, stressing that “Putin miscalculated and thought that the world would remain silent over his entry into Ukraine.”
“Putin’s war was premeditated and unjustified,” he said. “He rejected diplomatic efforts. He thought NATO would not respond. He thought he might sow discord here in our own home. Putin was wrong. We were ready.”
Biden stressed that the United States of America “stands with Ukraine” and that “Putin’s war on Ukraine was unjustified.”
“We have learned a lesson throughout history that dictatorships cause more chaos if they do not pay the price for their aggression,” he said.
Biden stressed that Putin “has become isolated and the free world will hold him accountable for his actions.”
In his speech, the president announced that the United States would close American airspace to all Russian flights.
He added that the Russian economy is “falling apart and all the blame is on Putin,” stressing, “We will protect American consumers and companies from the repercussions of the sanctions imposed once morest Russia.”
Biden stressed that the United States will not be involved in the war, saying: “We are deploying our forces to protect our NATO allies and we do not intend to fight in Ukraine.”
Biden stressed that “Putin’s adventure in Ukraine will lead to the weakening of Russia and the strengthening of the world.”
This is Biden’s first State of the Union address, the traditional annual political address of presidents to Congress. Biden was supposed to deliver it in January or February, but it was postponed due to the spread of the “Omicron” mutant.
The president did not wear a muzzle during the speech, and he also allowed those who wanted to vaccinate guests not to wear masks following removing this requirement in the House of Representatives, according to the new guidelines issued by the “American Centers for Disease Control and Control.”
The war in Ukraine imposed itself on the discourse that was supposed to focus mainly on the president’s domestic agenda and the promotion of his social projects.
While acknowledging the problem of inflation, Biden praised the administration’s achievements in strengthening the strength of the American economy.
