The new rates will come into effect from August 1, 2023.

It’s not really a surprise! Phil Spencer, boss of Xbox, had already warned us last October that prices would increase in 2023. The company has just confirmed this via a press release sent to The Verge by Kari Perez, head of communication at Xbox. From August 1, 2023, prices will increase in many countries around the world, including France.

The Xbox Series X will cost 50 euros more

Several Xbox products are affected by this price increase, including the Xbox Series X which sees its price increased by 50 euros, and which therefore goes to 549.99 euros in Europe. For those who are wondering, the Xbox Series S will remain at its current price. Microsoft has confirmed that the console will still be sold at 299.99 euros.

In addition, Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service will also experience a price increase. The Ultimate formula will go from 12.99 to 14.99 euros per month and the standard formula (Xbox Game Pass for Console) from 9.99 to 10.99 euros per month. No changes are planned for Xbox Game Pass for PC, however.

Note that Microsoft is not the only company to have increased its prices. In recent years, there has been a general trend of increasing prices in the tech sector, if we only mention Sony which increased the price of its PlayStation 5 last year.

“We have maintained our prices for consoles for many years. It is now time to adjust them to reflect the competitive conditions of each market, ”explained Kari Perez, who underlines in passing that this increase is the first for the Xbox Game Pass since the launch of the service in 2017.
