In January, the Apple started releasing game streaming services on the App Store — still, the Microsoft has not yet released the Xbox Cloud Gaming in the Apple store, which remains available only via the web on iOS/iPadOS.
Reporter Tom Warren of The Verge, presented a report do document [PDF] sent by Microsoft at the end of July to Competition and Markets Authority (Competition and Markets Authorityor CMA), in which the company claims that even with the changes made in January, the guidelines proposed by Apple still prevent Xbox Cloud Gaming from being available on Apple devices. The company responsible for Xbox pointed out two crucial points for this impediment:
- Apple Purchase Requirements;
- Requirements that prevent apps from inserting external purchase links.
Microsoft claims, in short, that the changes to the guidelines have not resulted in anything, as their purpose is still impeded by Apple.
Apple, however, sent a document [PDF] responding directly to the CMA, in which it claimed that there are other apps with this proposal and that the company itself contributes to their success. It also highlighted its range of technologies, app/web support and engagement with developers since the App Store policies were changed.
For now, this dispute has not been resolved, as on the one hand Microsoft has not clearly established what appears to be preventing the launch of Xbox Cloud Gaming on the App Store, and Apple itself has already been questioned by regulatory bodies from other companies about its store’s strict guidelines.
