Mick Schumacher: “That makes fire under your butt” / Formula 1

Ferrari junior Mick Schumacher scored points for the second time in a row at the Red Bull Ring. Afterwards, the German spoke regarding the pressure he also felt thanks to Haas team boss Günther Steiner.

In the Spielberg sprint it was not enough for Mick Schumacher to score points, but on Sunday the German made it across the finish line in sixth place and was therefore able to celebrate fresh World Championship points in the second race in a row. The many duels he fought on the way to his second top 10 result also put him in a good mood.

“It was a lot of fun, we had to fight our way through, which sometimes you don’t want to do, but this year it was a great experience to also be able to show what we’re really capable of out there,” summarized the Haas driver with the colleagues from “Sky Sports F1”. And he revealed: The pressure that team boss Günther Steiner had increased over the past few weeks contributed to the regarding-face.

“As an athlete, you want that pressure, because that’s what fires you up and makes you go fast. In a way, that’s true, so I was able to score my first championship points at Silverstone. I needed that to set off fireworks,” added the 23-year-old proudly.

His teammate Kevin Magnussen was also praised in this respect. “Kevin had a great start to the season and I think that motivated me too. Because of course we are also opponents and everyone wants to do well for themselves. But Kevin gave me different ways and ideas on how to approach a race weekend and a race in particular. And I think we push each other and try to grow together with the team.”

“We are all going in the right direction,” Schumacher also gave his team a good report. “We scored points at Silverstone and here too. We might have scored points in the sprint too and that shows we’re on an uptrend that hopefully will continue. I hope we can do that well once more before the summer break in Le Castellet and Budapest before we can have a strong second half of the season with the update followingwards.”
