This week, Mick Jagger surprised the media and his fans by reporting that his eight children will not inherit his fortune because he believes they do not need the money for their future. The Rolling Stones singer assured that if they sell their musical catalog, the amount acquired will be allocated to different NGOs.
In conversation with The Wall Street Journal, the 80-year-old musician spoke regarding artists who decide to put the catalog of their songs on sale when they die. Jagger acknowledged that, if that were to happen to the Rolling Stones catalogue, he would donate all the millions to various charities, rather than leaving them to his children as his inheritance.
“My children do not need US$500 million to live well. Maybe it is better to do good in the world,” said the British singer-songwriter.
It should be remembered that Mick has eight children from five different relationships: Karis, 52, Jade, 51, Elizabeth, 39, Georgia, 31, James, 38, Gabriel, 25, Lucas, 24, and the youngest, Deveraux, only 7. years, as a result of his current relationship with former dancer Melanie Hamrick.
In the note, Jagger pointed out that the estimated value of his catalog only includes songs recorded from 1971 onwards because the band, even the Stones, do not yet own the rights to songs recorded before that year, which include hits like Satisfaction, Paint it Black, Jumpin Jack Flashamong others.
Aside from these statements, it is currently unknown what the real fate of the band’s catalog will be when its members are no longer in this world.
