EAST LANSING, Mich. – Lifted by a strong offensive effort, Michigan State topped in-state rival Central Michigan, 3-0.

The Spartans improved to 3-5 on the year and are on a two-game winning streak. Central Michigan dropped its seventh straight game falling to 1-7.

Three different MSU players found the net en route to the win. The home team netted two goals in a span of two minutes to jump out on a 2-0 lead. Lena Kassel got the scoring started in the eighth minute as she found an open lane in the circle for her second goal on the season. The Lulu Fulton and Ellie Rutherford connection carried over from Friday’s victory into today’s contest as Fulton located Rutherford for the second goal of the game.

The Spartans final goal of the game came just over three minutes left in the first half. Ashley Harlock located freshmen forward Bianca Pizano across the circle and recorded her first collegiate goal.

Pizano comments on her first career goal, “It’s very exciting, all the hard work leading to this moment and to see it pay off in the game, it was really rewarding.”

The Spartans took a 3-0 lead into halftime with its largest lead this season for the Green and White.

Michigan State defense continued its recent aggressive play, limiting the visitors to only one shot attempt all game and only saw two penalty corner attempts.
