Michigan man Igor Lanis shot dead by police after killing wife and injuring daughter

A Michigan man fatally shot his wife, seriously injured his daughter and killed the family dog with a shotgun on Sunday, before being killed by police.

The man identified as Igor Lanis, 53, shot dead his 56-year-old wife and shot and injured their 25-year-old daughter at the family home in Walled Lake early Sunday, before getting into a shootout with cops, according to the local reports.

The daughter called 911 at 4:11 a.m., saying her father had shot her and killed her mother, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard told reporters at a news conference, according to The DetroitNews.

Officers, who did not have the family’s exact address, responded to the 1200 block of Glenwood Court and were speaking with a neighbor when they heard gunshots coming from a nearby house, Bouchard said.

As the cops entered the house, Lanis ran out the front door with a shotgun and began shooting at the officers.

Officers returned fire and shot Lanis, killing him, Bouchard said.

They rushed into the house and found the man’s injured and bleeding daughter trying to crawl out of the house.

She had been shot in the back and legs, suffering “super traumatic injuries”, he said. She was rushed to hospital and is in stable condition.

Her mother was found dead inside the house. She had been shot at least four times. The police did not release his name.

The family dog was also found dead from multiple gunshot wounds.

“It’s terribly sad on so many levels,” Bouchard said.

He said the mad father might have continued his shooting if the police had not intercepted and killed him.

“I think there was a danger for anyone,” Bouchard said at the Sunday followingnoon news conference. “He had his keys with him so who knows where he was going.”

Lanis’ second child, who also lived in the family’s Oakland County home, was not home at the time of the shooting.

Investigators did not provide details regarding what led to the fatal shooting, but said Lanis had been “more agitated” than normal over the past year. He had no criminal record and no protective order once morest him.

The incident was the first shooting involving police from the Walled Lake Police Department in the department’s history, according to Bouchard.

No officers were hit or injured in the exchange of fire, he said.
