Michalis Ganas, one of the leading Greek poets, not only gave great works to Greek literature, but also memories to the people who knew him personally, such as Olga Nikolopoulou. His friendship with Patras and its people, especially through the “Polyedros” bookstore, stands out for its authenticity and humanity.
“He had come dozens of times to Polyedros and to our house. It was not only his poetic evenings, but also his company that was unforgettable,” recalls Olga Nikolopoulou speaking to pelop.gr. As he says, he did not come only to read his poems, but many times he talked about the work of other authors, proving his simplicity and generosity. “He was a sweet, pleasant man, who loved his place and knew how to share what was beautiful inside him,” she adds.

Ganas did not hesitate to enter the everyday life and company of his friends, laughing with them and always finding something clever to add to the conversations. “He was amazing at the parties, on our walks, we laughed non-stop,” says Nikolopoulou Nikolopoulou, recalling the moments when she walked with the poet and other friends in the area. Particularly affectionate, he had developed bonds with the family’s daughter, Leto, with whom he shared conversations and jokes.
The loss of Michalis Gana leaves behind not only his work, which combines simplicity with deep expression, but also the memories of a man who knows how to love and be present. For Patra, Ganas was not only a poet, but also a special friend who enlivened moments with his presence and humor.
