Convinced that there will be immediate results in the battle once morest corruption and extortion and protection networks, Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis appeared in an interview with Alpha’s central news bulletin on Friday evening (19.7.24).

“What is most worrying of all is the reduction of the tourism potential that Mykonos has and a risk of obsolescence that exists for the island. Really, this is a big responsibility for us to get things on the right track, that is Mykonos providing the product it deserves to provide and not what some have been providing for the last few years, i.e. the bravos, the huge parties that happen in the bars those in which, unfortunately, drugs and many other things are trafficked and a series of illegal activities that take place either in the area of entertainment and catering or in the area of construction”, stressed Mr. Chrysochoidis, on the occasion of the murder of the 54-year-old surveyor of Mykonos and the corruption and extortion rings.

“The police, as far as they are concerned at least, will have a catalytic presence in order to abolish all these phenomena which discredit the island. And this is a decision,” he emphasized.

“At the moment, there are four or five open cases concerning all these issues, from the moral perpetrators, those who have made a bad impression on the island, the good guys, those who do not respect the laws and anything else that spoils the image and damages the people who have invested and are doing business on the island. You will see in the remaining days the police with many forces and many results”, he pointed out.

“We set up the Greek FBI. The police have penetrated the network of thugs, extortionists, fuel and smuggled cigarettes. We want to scan all the networks with Greeks and foreigners in the night and in focus”.

With regard to the criminal organizations that have infiltrated football as well, Mr. Chrysochoidis referred to the investigations carried out by EL.AS. following the incidents outside Alexandra Avenue and added that ELAS investigations will continue and will be extended to all teams and sports.

“It is not a fan issue. They are organized criminals who from there form groups with the participation of small children”, he said.
