Michael J. Fox longs to return to acting despite having retired due to the progression of Parkinson’s
In 2020, the protagonist of Back to the Future, Michael J. Fox, announced that he would leave acting permanently due to the degenerative disease he suffers from, however, he recently revealed that he could reverse that decision.

Fox’s hopeful statements were made recently during an event by the NGO that bears his name, then almost four years after having announced what seemed like his definitive retirement of action in the face of the progress of Parkinson’s that he has suffered since 1991.
That year, Fox, then 29 years old, decided to leave the world of acting because his illness affected him neurologically. It is very difficult for him to learn his dialogues and scripts.
Just a year earlier, he had filmed the third and final installment of Back to the Future.
However, in 2009the actor reappeared after many years fighting with Parkinson’s and did so on the small screen, in a television series called “The Exemplary Wife”in which he played Louis Canning, a lawyer who suffered from an illness with symptoms very similar to those faced by Fox in real life.
Ten years later, he returned to acting in the film ‘See You Yesterday’but little by little he moved away from the cameras due to the advance of Parkinson’s until finally, in 2020, He retired for the second time.
In 2023, a documentary was released in which Michael J. Fox reveals unpublished details of his life and his fight against the disease, which won four Emmy Awards, including “Best Documentary.”
“It was a great emotion (to make the documentary). If someone offers me a role and I do it and have a good time, great. I would do acting if something came up where I could put my realities, my challenges and if I could solve it,” Fox confessed during the NGO event.
“If you think you have nothing to be grateful for, keep looking, because optimism It is not something that one simply receives. You can’t wait for things to be fantastic, you have to behave in a way that is what you promote,” added a motivated Michael J. Fox.
Although he also detailed how complicated it has been to face his illness, especially in the last year, he assures that he has received very good and gratifying news, like his daughter’s wedding. “Good things are happening, life has been good,” he said.
