Michael Bublé told the sports podcast Spittin’ Chiclets the time he canceled a concert in 2011 to attend Game 7 of the Canucks’ Stanley Cup final in Vancouver, and the crowd’s reaction when he finally performed.
On June 15, 2011, Michael Bublé had an appointment with Uncasville, Connecticut, to hold a concert. The event was, however, postponed until the next day, since Bublé wanted to attend the final match of the Stanley Cup final, which took place in Vancouver, between the Canucks and the Boston Bruins. This reason for cancellation, however, did not please the crowd, who did not hesitate to tell him the next day.
“People literally came to the show wanting to quit,” the singer from the Vancouver suburbs tells hosts and former NHL players Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Withney. “They booed me, sent me away, and they left,” he remembers, visibly still a little uncomfortable.
The singer of our holiday classics then admits that he regrets his decision… or rather his team’s defeat.
“It was a mistake, if I had to do it once more, I would do things differently […] If the Canucks had won, I would probably say it was worth it, but they lost, and it sucks,” he says.
A love of Roberto Luongo
Michael Bublé was present for the induction ceremony of retired Quebec goaltender, Roberto Luongo, into the Vancouver Canucks’ ring of honor on December 14.
“It was beautiful to see him with his family, his children have grown up so much. It was emotional, he fully deserves it,” he said.
