More than 430 hp, lightning acceleration and a fully electric motorization: the MG4 XPower inaugurates a new genre in a segment of sports compact-type electric cars. A market generally very attached to thermal and a competitor for the Tesla Model 3 Performance.
After having successfully made a sensational entry into the electric compact market, the MG4 is showing its muscles with a sporty XPower version. Thanks to its two electric motors, this novelty has a combined power of 435 hp. It contrasts sharply with the placidity of the first MGs designed under the SAIC era, and shows in its own way the rise in power of the English manufacturer under the Chinese flag.

The MG4 XPower is powered by two engines: one of 204 hp at the front and another of 245 hp at the rear. This configuration provides 4-wheel drive (all-wheel drive). The combined power therefore reaches 435 hp and the torque peaks at 600 Nm. Impressive figures, which make this MG4 XPower the most powerful MG in history.
Capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds thanks to a new feature ” Launch Control (as on the Porsche Taycan or Tesla Model S Plaid), the MG4 XPower is positioned as one of the most efficient compacts on the market. However, it is hardly extravagant in terms of style. The cosmetic treatment includes a black roof, specific 18-inch rims, XPower door sills and black rocker panels. A new matte green color and orange brake calipers are also appearing. Finally, exterior and interior badges complete the range.
To channel the ardor of the electric motor, MG fitted the car with electronic differential lock and a torque vectoring system (torque vectoring) between the 4 wheels. Other changes have been made to running gear, anti-roll bars and steering, to boost handling. Suspension stiffness has been increased by 25%. In addition, the braking system has also been improved. It now relies on ventilated discs of 345 mm at the front and 340 mm at the rear.
What regarding autonomy?
In its release, MG carefully avoids two important topics: battery capacity and range. According to previous information, the MG4 XPower would take over the battery from the Comfort version, with a capacity of 64 kWh. Autonomy would drop to around 385 km, a loss of around sixty km compared to the Comfort.
The subject of recharging has not been addressed either, but logic would dictate that the XPower benefits from the improvements made to the rest of the range recently, with a 10 to 80% achieved in 26 minutes.
Price and availability
Another major unknown for the moment: the price, which will undoubtedly be competitive in view of the car’s performance. Orders will open on July 17 for France. It should, logically, be much cheaper than the Tesla Model 3 Performance, sold from 53,990 euros, which achieves 0 to 100 km / h in 3.3 seconds with its 547 km of autonomy. For comparison, the MG4 starts at 29,990 euros.
MG EX4 : le teaser
In parallel with this MG4 XPower, MG has worked on another even more radical version of its compact, which this time will take the form of a concept car. This vehicle has been the subject of a first teaser. It will seek to evoke the Metro 6R4, a rally car dating from the 80s. Its presentation will take place at the Goodwood Festival in July, an event during which the MG4 XPower will make its first public appearance.
Therefollowing, the family of the MG4 will extend further with a station wagon and a new version with long autonomy. Expected this year, the latter should quite easily cross the threshold of 500 km of autonomy, leaving the electric Mégane far behind in this area. But with a price that should be revised upwards.
